New Packages from WiTribe – Student, Family and Business

Wi-Tribe, a broadband wireless internet provider, has introduced three (3) new and economical packages for its new and existing customers:

  • Student
  • Family
  • Business

Student Package:

It is a 1 MBPS Package during student hours only, No limit on downloads and priced at PKR 1,200 per month.

Student hours will be 12 AM to 6 PM after which the speed will be 512 KBPS instead of 1 MBPS.

Family Package:

It is a 1 MBPS Package, No limit on downloads and priced at PKR 1,600 per month.

Business Package:

It is a 2 MBPS Package during Business hours, No limit on downloads and priced at a decent PKR 2,000 per month.

Business hours will be 9 AM to 6 PM after which the package will be offering 1MBPS and a download limit of 10GB per month.

Wi-Tribe Prepaid Packages

Wi-Tribe has recently announced the launch of its Prepaid packages allowing customers to save themselves for the end-of-month bill payment hassles.

Wi-Tribe will now allow users to purchase internet hours in advance (At a rate of PKR 20 per hour) and prepaid cards will be available in a variety of denominations starting at PKR 100 leading upto PKR 1,000. Continue reading

Wi-Tribe Pocket Modem

The Pocket Modem concept, first introduced in Pakistan by Qubee, has triggered a race (as it was expected). Wi-Tribe has announced the launched of its Pocket modem as well for users on-the-go.

The pocket modem is offered for PKR 1,500 at a discounted rate initially and can be ordered at the Wi-Tribe helpline or their customer care centers. Continue reading

Wateen to lay Optical Fibre Network in Balochistan

Wateen Telecom has announced that it will be laying an optical fibre network sprawling over 1,100 kilometers in collaboration with the Universal Service Fund (USF).

The overall project cost amounts to some PKR 2.4 Billion of which almost PKR 1.9 billion will be provided by the USF, the rest to be funded by Wateen Telecom. According to information we have received, the project will connect twenty (20) unserved cities and towns which includes Gulistan, Musakhel, Barshor, Duki, Harnai, Ziarat, Sinjawi, Zhob, Sherani and Qamardinkarez. Broadband subscriptions cross the 1 million mark in Pakistan

Pakistan was a slow starter when it comes to broadband uptake and internet usage in Pakistan with only 26,000 broadband subscribers by the end of the year 2006. This was the time when broadband was taken seriously by the PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) and a policy was introduced and implemented to increase and enhance broadband penetration in Pakistan and to make its advantages come to every household in Pakistan.

In October 2010, Pakistan crossed 1 Million broadband subscribers which was a whopping 100% increase from the previous year when Pakistan only had 400,000 broadband subscribers. As of the latest statistics, broadband subscribers stood at 1.072 million in November 2010. Continue reading
